....as we ascended sentinel pass on never-ending switchback trails high above moraine lake and the valley of the ten peaks....snow began to fall, unrelentlessly, covering the larches which were in full bloom....their needles turning to gold.  the vibrancy of the colors was astonishing and the oncoming sunset here in the high country was mind boggling.  this hiker with his long, silky red hair and his kaleidoscopic glasses made his way down the path to witness the scene with us and make it iconic....

....emptiness crept into my soul as i watched the averted eyes all around me....a concrete bench....home to this humble man dressed in yesterday's news, who shook off the brisk night air and touched my heart as we ate donuts, made small conversation and added life to both of our hearts....

egypt...a land of mysticism....my notes and thoughts as i traveled by bus crossing the sahara as a massive sandstorm ensued, locking the moment to my heart....these three beautiful people were my first representation in giza and i preserved the image in paint with dry brush to commemorate the moment...haboub #2 captured my soul with his floating gold teeth....

calle ocho in little havana....the infectious sounds of loud cuban music coupled with the clicking of dominoes, the smell of rich cuban food wafting through the air...the pride of their heritage..one of my favorite photo ops as i watch these men preserve the rich customs of their homeland..and at the end a sensuous wink

russion soldier in the eighties

russian soldier and futility crossing red square

bitter cold and chilling winds saturated our souls as we landed in moscow in the late eighties...perestroika...the city, even with its broken spirit housed such architectural beauty...this soldier who tapped me on my shoulder at lenin's tomb as i stepped over a forbidden rope scared me and thoughts of the "gulag" were dancing in my head...the couple below them, so filled with futility as they made their way crossing red square became an iconic vision for me...the contrast of the bold, vibrant colors against their haunted feelings of inadequacy touched my soul...perhaps my favorite paint.

as i wandered through the marketplace in krakow, surrounded by such beauty spared during world war II, my eyes focused on this polish vendor whose belicose nature brought me back to reality...

visiting a high altitude farmer's market in the rockies, where drought conditions and short season make growing so challenging....this tomato vendor, whose "comedic education" was presented to me as i asked him why the heritage tomato i was holding was so ugly...." ahhhh, he said....you know, some days you wake up and feel so low but then as the day progresses rejuvenation takes hold and you're alive again.....so it is with the heritage tomato"...i rest my case

searing heat permeated our bodies as we approached the tiny town of reed pointe in montana, population 112, for a sheepshearing event.  farmers so full of pride with their stained overalls and long woolly beards shook our hands and were eager to begin....when suddenly a loud, deafening sound pierced the air and as i turned around this old hippie on his vintage  harley pulled up beside me...his long, white hair flying in the breeze...his weathered skin so full of living and his smile...well...it penetrated my heart.
